What is the Issue?
In spite of being a protected right in the First Amendment of the US Constitution, there persists to this day a nasty discrimination in the US on the basis of religion. Every day, persons of non-Christian faiths suffer discrimination in many forms from many sources.
Can You be a Bit More Specific?
Darn tootin' I can. Though they don't universally experience the same issues, Muslims go through much discrimination and suffer many crimes against them on the basis of their faith. Around election time every four years, for instance, there is a spike in the number of violent crimes committed against Muslims throughout the nation. Jews, too, have many violent crimes committed against them, disproportionately many violent crimes. The Anti Defamation League has shown a decrease followed by a severe increase in violent crime over the years it has been tracking it. Even the beloved Boy Scouts of America discriminates on this basis. They exclude all atheist and agnostic people from membership in their organization, either as leaders or as youth participants. There have been several suits filed against them, but every time so far the courts have sided with the BSA over the marginalized atheists and agnostics.
Okay, a Bit More Specific Than That, Please.
Fine, you needy tool. In 2017, somewhere between 500 and 600 people gathered together waving Swastika flags, performing the Nazi salute, and yelling things like "Seig heil!" and "The Jews will not replace us!" There were more than 2100 incidents of assault, vandalism, and harassment done to Jews reported in the most recent Audit of Antisemitic Incidents, more than any other year since the Audit's first use. 91 Jews were injured and 5 were killed in these incidents. And that's just what the Jews are up against, others face similar problems all across the nation.
So is There a Solution?
The safest bet for solving the problem is education. An ISPU report showed that most people who hold Islamophobic views don't actually know any Muslims, so it is a reasonable conclusion to draw that by being more exposed to someone or something different from oneself, one becomes less likely to be prejudiced or discriminatory towards that someone or thing. Thus, education is the key to ending this injustice.
How Can I Help this Solution?
Well, step 1 is not being a poop from a butt to people who are different from you. Step two is making an effort to learn about people who are different from you. Step three is helping other people learn from them just as you had. There might also be organizations you can donate to, like the Anti Defamation League, but finding an organization you like is on you. I can't find an organization that you'll like, so just do a little research if donation is the way you'd like to help.
